In this session, we explore the new features of Internet Information Services
(IIS) 7.0. We explain how many of its new features can be used to create
a more centralized method of Web server management and configuration. We focus
on the new tools and structures in IIS 7.0, which can help administrators
maintain a more centralized Web server configuration. We start by seeing how
a new group of configuration files has replaced the metabase, which was used in
previous versions of IIS. Then we look closely at various techniques and options
available in IIS 7.0 for building centralized Web server configurations.
These techniques enable you to build more robust and manageable server farms and
can help Web administrators maintain a more stable and scalable enterprise. Then
we describe the features of the new FTP system for IIS 7.0 and illustrate
how they can be used for administrators of corporate Web sites in addition to
Web hosting companies. And finally, we look at the new troubleshooting tools
built into IIS 7.0. There are many new tools available, which can help
administrators quickly pinpoint problems and keep Web servers fully operational.
