I have used classic ASP and used hidden fields a lot. I thought hidden field is no longer of any use!

1. How to compare the use of a hidden field with ViewState of a control?

2. What is the other approach you tried to mention other than the hidden fields?

3. Wouldn't it be better to alter the ViewState of a control using client side javascript?

The disadvantage of hidden field is that you don't see the values unless you access the field. And since this is the case, I would suggest that Microsoft will have a new property for each control that can enable client side data store. So, a hidden field will be created automatically with each enabled control.
