It consists of about 10 components, and it went on to install all of them even though I already had SQL Server, SQL Express, etc. installed 6 months ago. Fine, maybe I'm getting the newer versions, who knows? The Web Platform Installer installed 5 components in about 4 minutes, and then got stuck on SQL Server System CLR Types. It kept writing something on my hard drive for about 25 minutes until I cancelled the installation. After checking the log file SQLSysClrTypes.txt in C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\logs\install\2011-05-26T15.00.36 (with its size about 9 MBytes!!!), I found this repeating pattern at the end:

: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

1: scavenge 2: {90120000-0021-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} 3: {D76D5A36-2C85-3E15-8E2A-1B536A12F0D6} 4: {2A2F3AE8-246A-4252-BB26-1BEB45627074} 5: -1

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

1: scavenge 2: {90120000-0021-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE} 3: {D76D5A36-2C85-3E15-8E2A-1B536A12F0D6} 4: {2A2F3AE8-246A-4252-BB26-1BEB45627074} 5: -1

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

1: scavenge 2: {90120000-0115-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE} 3: {D76D5A36-2C85-3E15-8E2A-1B536A12F0D6} 4: {2A2F3AE8-246A-4252-BB26-1BEB45627074} 5: -1

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

1: scavenge 2: {90120000-006E-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE} 3: {D76D5A36-2C85-3E15-8E2A-1B536A12F0D6} 4: {2A2F3AE8-246A-4252-BB26-1BEB45627074} 5: -1

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

Okay, I thought, it might be a glitch. So I restarted PI, and it showed this component (SQL CLR types) already installed. Now I had only 4 components left to install:

MS SQL Server Compact 4.0,

SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Objects,

MS WebMatrix installer,

MS WebMatrix.

So I ran the installer again. It installed the first component ok, and then again got stuck, but this time on SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Objects! After about 25 minutes I again went to check the log file and found SharedManagementObjects.txt, which size was about 3 MB. Well, I clicked the PI's "Cancel" button, and PI went on "cancelling" installation for about 20 minutes, again writing something on my hard drive, until I completely lost my patience and simply killed the process from the Task Manager. Then I checked the log file SharedManagementObjects.txt, and its size has increased even more to 7.5 MB! What was inside? Some repeating pattern:

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 732 4: 0

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

1: scavenge 2: {90120000-0021-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} 3: {246BDC3D-9554-3CA4-9105-019AC3221311} 4: {4E968D9C-21A7-4915-B698-F7AEB913541D} 5: -1

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

1: scavenge 2: {90120000-0021-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE} 3: {246BDC3D-9554-3CA4-9105-019AC3221311} 4: {4E968D9C-21A7-4915-B698-F7AEB913541D} 5: -1

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

1: scavenge 2: {90120000-0115-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE} 3: {246BDC3D-9554-3CA4-9105-019AC3221311} 4: {4E968D9C-21A7-4915-B698-F7AEB913541D} 5: -1

1: sxsdelca 2: traceop 3: 748 4: 0

And one other thing: this failed installation (I mean those installed components) took about 500 Megabytes on my hard drive.

My system is Windows XP SP 3.

Bottom line. People from Microsoft - if you not able to release quality software, think about changing your career. Seriously. I've been working at MS for over 10 years as SDE, and I know - this is mostly the manager's fault. The products must be tested on all configurations, you have a test team, and you, the manager who released PI, is the one who is resposible for this spectacular failure. What you did is absolutely unacceptable. You're getting paid, and you release the software even school kids would be ashamed of! And the size - 500 Megabytes - for what?

Do I have to mention about 2 hours of my time completely wasted? And ultimate frustration and annoyance by the end of the "installation"?

So, if you think about installing WebMatrix - think again, and better stay away from this stinking disgrace. As for myself - I am switching to PHP (BTW - its size is only about 15 Megbytes). Good riddance ASP.NET!

Comment Posted by tatil panosu

informative video

Comment Posted by tugbayatilla

İ can not watch this movie with my ipad without download it.
